The only effective way to cure the disease is to eliminate the primary cause of disease. Since most conditions of ill health have the same underlying causes, the basic treatment of all disease is the same. First, all the underlying causes of disease must be eliminated such as nutritional, physical (postural) and emotional stresses and abuses. Then the patient should be put on a health-restoring and vitality-building program with emphasis on optimum nutrition and other biologically supportive treatments such as massage, hydrotherapy and exercises, which will help the body's own healing forces to restore health. There are many factors that interfere with successful application of these health-restoring therapies such as toxic environment and emotional stress -- anxiety, worries, fears, etc. If the patient is under severe environmental or emotional stress, the expected healing will not manifest as long as the stress continues. Therefore, the prime consideration should be given to help the patient to free himself/herself from all emotional stresses and worries and acquire the state of total relaxation and peace of mind. This is absolutely imperative in order to make nutritional and other therapies effective. Also, the patient should have a thorough understanding of the purpose of various nutritional and other therapies, and have a complete confidence and faith in these methods of treatment. Therefore, educating the patient in regard to the basic laws of health and disease and how he/she can stay well and prevent disease should be the most important work of the doctor.
“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.” (Thomas Edison)
What Is “Healing Crisis”?
Nutritional and other biological therapies result in a rapid improvement in the condition of the patient. However, it is not uncommon that a cleansing diet will sometimes (in fact, quite often) result in an apparent change for the worse. This is particularly true in chronic conditions characterized by massive accumulation of toxic wastes in the tissues. In such case, the patient will get temporarily worse, before getting better. The reason for this is that a cleansing diet will dissolve huge amounts of accumulated toxins and throw them into the bloodstream for elimination. The eliminative organs -- kidneys, liver, lungs, and the skin -- will be overloaded with the work. This may result in so-called "healing crisis," manifested by some temporary worsening of the condition and such unpleasant symptoms as headaches and body aches, nausea, diarrhea, sweating, bad breath, skin eruptions, and fever. The length of this healing period may vary. It all depends on how waste-laden one is and how strong his/her immune system is. The healing crisis is, fortunately, only temporary. Eventually, the patient will experience a definite improvement as the body will cleanse itself of the accumulated poisonous wastes and become strong enough to initiate an effective healing activity.
